Our Montessori Philosophy
Richmond Academy Montessori is grounded in the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori: respect for the child, freedom within limits, and a prepared environment that meets each child’s developmental needs.
- Mixed-age classrooms encouraging leadership and collaboration.
- Hands-on, sensorial materials that make abstract concepts concrete.
- Freedom of movement, choice of work, and long, uninterrupted work cycles.
- Focus on practical life skills, independence, and self-care.
The Prepared Environment
Our Montessori classrooms are carefully designed: low shelves, child-sized furniture, real materials, and calm colours help children feel safe, capable, and in control of their learning.
Pouring, polishing, buttoning, sorting – exercises that build focus, coordination, and independence.
Materials that refine sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell to support brain development.
Rich vocabulary, phonetic work, and storytelling build confident communicators.
Number rods, beads, and golden materials introduce quantity and operations concretely.
A day in our Montessori classroom
Children are welcomed personally, hang their bags, and choose their first work independently.
Teachers observe, guide, and present materials one-on-one while children explore practical life, sensorial, language, and numeracy activities.
Children prepare and share snacks, practice table manners, and enjoy supervised free play outdoors.
Songs, stories, and sharing help children build social confidence and listening skills.
Art, music, movement, and special activities let children express themselves creatively.
Children return materials, tidy their environment, and prepare calmly to go home, proud of their work.
